VUEPoints™
Overview
Successful item level solutions are able to deliver significant business value in
large part from tracking the location of a specific item to a discrete, granular
location. A challenge immediately arises in that traditional RFID antennas have
been designed to cover large areas, not providing the level of granularity required
for item level inventory visibility. Additionally, these antennas have been designed
to read tags on boxes, and have not integrated specialized design to read tags on
various item level material types such as metals, liquids, and plastics.
VUEPoints™ are smart surface devices that combine RFID antennas with RF Networking
capabilities to create intelligent RFID read points throughout a facility, and are
key to achieving near 100 percent inventory visibility and accuracy. VUEPoints come
in many form-factors designed to provide item level visibility under different conditions,
and include shelves, under-counter devices, desktop pads, and more. Each device
is network- addressable to enable their use in sophisticated item level environments.
Designed for Specific Uses
Individual VUEPoints are designed to be used in specific applications in order to
maximize their accuracy. For example, pharmaceuticals are tracked with a VUEPoint
designed specifically to track pharmaceutical liquids, gels and metals.
Integrated RF Networking
In most VUEPoint models, multiple antennas are used to provide reliable coverage
across its entire surface. In support of these antennas, a
TrueVUE™ RF Switch™ device
is embedded into the VUEPoint. With this embedded technology, a VUEPoint can be
connected to the rest of the RFID network through a single cable that controls RF,
power and data, enabling plug-and-play deployment.
Granular Read Zones
Even though many VUEPoints are based upon far field UHF antennas, their design enables
them to read very narrow, defined areas. As a result, items read by a VUEPoint can
be tracked to a specific location, increasing the value derived from most item level
workflows. In addition, the same RFID tag can be read by existing RFID infrastructure
such as dock doors, portals, handheld readers, and mobile carts.
Multiple Form Factors
VUEPoints are available in a variety of form factors, in order to support their
use in specific application areas. Included among the form factors available are
smart shelves, smart surfaces, and a stand alone pad device. VUEPoints can be integrated
into existing fixtures, incorporating facility design and aesthetic considerations.
