TrueVUE™ Commissioning™
As organizations tackle the challenges associated with item
level RFID, and as compliance mandates are passed down, the management of the unique
numbers written into RFID tags become fundamental to the success of any project.
Making sure that multiple manufacturing, distribution and retail sites are able
to write tags for a particular product, and ensuring each tag is written with a
unique number, is a core requirement for any RFID project.
TrueVUE™ Commissioning™ is a centralized EPC commissioning tool designed for use
across numerous sites, companies, and products, offering a sophisticated EPC number
management system and RFID tracking repository.
As a commissioning tool, it is responsible
for generating and managing the unique numbers that will ultimately be written to
a tag. As a tracking repository, TrueVUE Commissioning provides Track and Trace
historical reporting for all tag numbers and associated data that have been generated
through various touch points in the supply chain. Together, enterprise class commissioning
is now within the reach of any organization.
RFID Number Generation
Whether a company is using numbers based upon an EPC Global standardized format,
or some alternate format , TrueVUE Commissioning generates the numbers in a manner
that ensures that each one will be used only once.
- Generates the unique numbers that will ultimately be written to an RFID tag.
- Supports the generation of numbers in the EPC Global standardized format.
- Supports the generation of numbers in a non-EPC format.
- Users can select from sequential, random or request based number generation.
- Supports user-configurable seed serial numbers.
- Allows for generated numbers to have an expiration date associated with them, after
which time they can no longer be used in the writing of tags.
- Maintains the EPC number management structure and becomes the system of record for
EPC number management.
Managing the use of RFID Numbers
Today’s environments are often highly distributed, with partners integrally involved
in manufacturing, distribution and retail activities. Any (or all) of these partners
may need to write tags, and therefore require unique commissioned numbers from a
centralized source. TrueVUE Commissioning provides this centralized management and
distribution of numbers.
- Supports the management of numbers among multiple sites, making sure that each number
written to a tag is unique.
- Issues RFID numbers to individual sites in blocks, enabling remote sites to download
a block of numbers that can last for months of “offline” tag writing.
- Provides historical reporting on the specific numbers that have been issued to sites.
- Access control capabilities allow restrictions on sites to only request numbers
for use in writing tags for specific products, or writing tags for products manufactured
by specific companies.
- Interfaces seamlessly with TrueVUE Essentials, which automatically requests blocks
of numbers for writing and printing tags.
- Tracks a number as “registered” when it has been used to write a tag, and provides
historical reporting these numbers.
- Supports manually expiring numbers.
- Offers historical detailing issued numbers that have been expired.
- Interfaces with EPC Network components to register assigned EPC numbers and identify
location of EPC services.
Track and Trace Reporting
After RFID numbers have been commissioned, they can be tracked through various activities
at multiple points in the supply chain. TrueVUE Commissioning centrally manages
this historical data and provides user-facing Track and Trace reports.
- Maintains item-specific attribute information providing “Track and Trace” capabilities
throughout the supply chain (i.e. Electronic Pedigree) in a centralized repository.
- Tracks activity information as well as location information.
- At the time a tag is written, human readable information including a product description
can be associated with the RFID number.
- Provides centralized or site level historical reporting of Trace and Trace data.
- Reports offer filters by date range, company id, product id, serial number and product
description.
