Board of Directors

  • Robert Locke, President & CEO, Vue Technology. Robert joined Vue in February 2004 while the Company was a division of MeadWestvaco (MWV). He led management through a revision of the Company’s strategy and a spin out into an independent entity in August 2005. Robert brings over 25 years of experience in operations, finance and M&A to his role at Vue. He has held a number of executive and entrepreneurial positions including CEO of PrintNation, Venture Partner at J.P. Morgan Capital, and Founder of Kelmscott Communications. Early in his career Robert spent 6 years in sales and marketing with IBM, including 4 years with IBM Retail Store Systems. Robert graduated with distinction from U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in Economics.

  • Ted Smith, Founder and retired Chairman, FileNet Corporation. After founding FileNet in 1982, Smith led the company as chairman and CEO until 1998, continued as chairman through 2000 and remains a member of the board of directors. FileNet is the worldwide leader in document image processing, electronic document management and workflow software and has also become a major provider of software for Enterprise Content Management and Internet workflow applications.

    Prior to founding FileNet, Smith was president and chief executive officer of Basic Four Corporation, a small business computer manufacturer, from late 1975 to 1981. During this time, he was also a director of Basic Four's parent corporation, MAI, a New York Stock Exchange listed company. Under his management, Basic Four grew from $40 million to $220 million in product revenue with over 20,000 customers worldwide.

    Smith was the executive vice president and a director of Sycor, Inc. before joining Basic Four. Sycor, also a New York Stock Exchange listed company, was the first manufacturer of intelligent terminals. Smith helped build the company from a start-up to $54 million in revenue before he left to head Basic Four in 1975.

    In addition to being a member of the board of directors of FileNet, he is a director of Apriso Corporation, a supplier of manufacturing execution software. He is also a member of the California Policy Committee of the Technology Network, an industry political action group of 200 high-tech CEOs, and chair of The UC Irvine Foundation, and former chairman of the Chief Executive Roundtable at UC Irvine.

    Mr. Smith has a bachelor of science in engineering from the University of Maryland and did graduate work in computer science and business at UCLA. The Smiths live in Laguna Beach and have two children and three grandchildren.

  • Skip Glass, Partner, Canaan Partners. Skip Glass joined Canaan Partners' Menlo Park, CA office in 2003. He currently serves as a Venture Partner focusing on information technology investments. Skip's background includes twenty years of experience as an entrepreneur, early stage investor, and advisor to numerous successful companies. Operational roles have included CEO and President of uRoam (acquired by F5 Networks); COO of Kiva (acquired by Netscape); Vice President of Field Operations at Illustra (acquired by Informix) and Vice President of Marketing at Sybase (IPO). Early in his career he spent ten years with IBM in senior sales and marketing positions. Skip serves on the Board of Directors of Evident Software, GroundWork, Sygate, Vidient, Voyence and Vue Technology and holds numerous consultant positions with venture and privately backed startups.

  • Philippe Cases, Partner. Philippe joined Partech in 1997 and focuses on software. He has 17 years of experience in private equity in Europe and the U.S., with 12 years specifically focused on early stage investing.

    Prior to joining Partech, Philippe was a Partner with Sofinnova in Paris. He has been a Director of Egide and BVRP (both listed on the French market) and Adknowledge (acq. by CMGI). In addition, he was involved with Flamel Technologies (FLML) and Rightpoint Software (acq. by E.piphany).

    Philippe currently sits on the board of directors of Jaspersoft and Spoke Software and is an advisor to InQuira.

    He attended the Engineering School of Mines in Nancy, France and received an MS from Stanford University where he was named a Sloan Fellow.

  • Don Armagnac, President, MeadWestvaco New Ventures. Prior to joining Westvaco in January 2002, Mr. Armagnac was president and chief executive officer of Collabria Software, a supply chain company focused on digital asset management. Prior to Collabria, he was executive vice president of field operations at QAD Software where he led the successful launch of QAD's Consulting Services Division. In addition to the Consulting Services Division, his multinational responsibilities at QAD included global marketing and communications, sales operations, alliances, and customer support. Prior to QAD, his focus was on technology for global manufacturing as international vice president for Digital Equipment Company's manufacturing and ERP systems integration practices. Mr. Armagnac was previously Digital's Western region sales vice president, supporting major clients in 11 Western states.
